Context & Purpose
Obeikan Education continues to build momentum in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Following a series of successful engagements, the company hosted its second workshop in Khobar in collaboration with U.S. partner Amplify. The workshop convened academic leaders, academic managers and key decision‑makers from international schools to explore how Amplify’s Desmos Math curriculum can reimagine K–12 mathematics education in Saudi Arabia.
Focus: Exploring Amplify Desmos Math
During the session, participants examined Amplify Desmos Math, a math curriculum designed around a fully structured, problem‑based learning approach. The program has gained traction among U.S. and IB international curriculum schools because it supports deeper conceptual understanding, increases student engagement and fosters meaningful mathematical thinking.
Workshop Highlights & Insights
- Practical guidance from experts. The workshop was led by Gregory Trieste, M.Ed., Senior STEM Product Specialist at Amplify. Drawing on his experience supporting major U.S. school districts, Trieste shared practical strategies for implementing problem‑based lessons and emphasised how Amplify integrates neurodiversity research to support diverse learners.
- Leadership and collaboration. Obeikan’s General Manager Abdellatief Al Jaber and Amplify’s Regional Director Joshua O’Neil highlighted their joint commitment to driving impactful learning experiences. They noted that a strong partnership between local expertise and global solutions is crucial for transforming mathematics education across the Kingdom.
- Engagement and problem solving. Participants explored how Desmos Math uses structured lessons and engaging problems to encourage students’ mathematical thinking. The program positions students as active participants, building a classroom community that invites, values and develops student thinking.
Why It Matters for K‑12 Math in Saudi Arabia
Educators left with a clear understanding of how a structured, problem‑based curriculum can improve math instruction. The workshop highlighted that problem‑based learning requires not only rich problems but also predictable lesson structures and differentiation support. Amplify Desmos Math provides these resources: lessons follow a “Launch, Monitor and Connect” sequence and incorporate a “Support, Strengthen and Stretch” framework to give teachers just‑in‑time differentiation tools. Such features ensure that students access grade‑level math while teachers can focus on facilitating discussion and synthesis.
This approach aligns with Obeikan Education’s mission to deliver innovative solutions that drive excellence in education. Obeikan is recognized as a leading provider of educational solutions in Saudi Arabia and the GCC, working with global partners to create inclusive and future‑ready learning environments. Bringing Amplify’s problem‑based curriculum to Saudi schools supports the Kingdom’s vision of improving learning outcomes and fostering global competitiveness in STEM fields.
